2023 began, as 2022 ended, in an atmosphere of protest. Everyone was on strike: teachers, nurses, train drivers, doctors... In the Church, the protests continued as churches and individuals grappled with the bishops' proposed Prayers of Love and Faith, and their implicit departure from biblical teaching on marriage and sexual morality.

In this issue of Crossway, you'll find responses to what happened at General Synod, including a look at what we mean by conscience. Kirsten Birkett examines the question of how and when Christians should protest, and whether it's right to take strike action. Tony Cannon outlines the Bible's teaching concerning false teachers and the action to be taken against them. The issue concludes with articles from Lee Gatiss and Ros Clarke about contending in the church at the moment.

Whatever your situation, and whatever action you are able and willing to take, we hope that this issue will give you courage to stand up and be counted for the truth of the gospel, the teaching of Scripture, and the goodness of our God.

Crossway is sent to all members of Church Society and to our Partner Churches. It is also available by subscription or as single issues to purchase here.
