Podcast S10E08: Setting up a parish trust
Tony Cannon asks recently retired vicar of Hailsham Parish Church, David Bourne, and chartered accountant and church member, Colin Dadswell, how they went about setting up a parish trust. David explains why the church team decided to set the trust up, and Colin explains the process this involved.
There are different ways of setting such a thing up which all have advantages and disadvantages. It would be very wise for a church to take independent legal advice before setting up such a trust, especially as PCC members are trustees of the PCC charity and there needs to be clear separation between any trust and the PCC. It is essential that PCC members do nothing that could be seen or thought to impact negatively on the role and assets of the PCC. Church Society is not able to give legal advice and you are encouraged to speak to a solicitor about your own church situation and needs.
