We were delighted to receive a good number of high quality applications for the various Church Society awards. These are designed to support and encourage men and women training for ministry, undergoing further study and undertaking sabbatical projects that will serve the church.

This year, awards are made to a number of PhD candidates and Masters-level students, who are undertaking research in reformed and patristic theology, as well as Puritan spirituality. There are incumbents who are also engaged in part-time study to enhance their ministry, as well as a sabbatical project to explore African Christianity. Mary Vere Grants are awarded across a wide range of candidates, from those taking introductory courses with the Cornhill Training Course and BCUK, through to an intensive Hebrew summer school at the University of Jerusalem and a PhD student looking at the theological anthropology of Richard Sibbes.

It is very encouraging indeed to see so many men and women committed to theological education of all kinds, and especially that some are preparing to become the theological educators of the next generation.
