THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things, visible and invisible.

The apostle John says:
If anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defence - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 2: 1-2

The apostle Paul also says:
Whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Therefore whoever eats the bread and drinks the cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. 1 Corinthians 11: 26-28

CONFESSION

Most merciful Father, our Creator and Judge,
we acknowledge and confess
that we have sinned against you

Lift up your hearts.

We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, our duty and joy, always and everywhere, to give you thanks and praise, holy Father, heavenly King, Almighty and eternal God, through Jesus Christ your only Son our Lord.

We especially praise you because in your tender mercy you sent him to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. There he made, by his once and for all offering of himself, a full, perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Through him you have freed us from the slavery of sin.

Therefore with angels and archangels,
and with the whole company of heaven,
we praise and magnify your glorious name,
evermore praising you, and saying:
Holy, holy, holy,
Lord God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.

Hear us, merciful Father, we humbly pray, and grant that we who eat this bread and drink this wine according to your Son Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body and blood.

For on the night that he was betrayed he took bread, (the minister takes the bread) and, when he had given thanks, he broke it (he breaks the bread) and said, This is my body, which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

In the same way, after supper, he took the cup, (he takes the cup) saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. Amen.
