- 1535 went up to Merton College, Oxford
- 1551 Jewell became a University Preacher
- In 1554 he fled to Frankfurt and later Strassburg
- 1558 returned to England on the death of Mary
- Appointed Bishop of Salisbury in 1559
- Believed to be the author of many of the Elizabethan Homilies
- Principal writings:
- Apologia ecclesiae Anglicanae
- Defence of the Apology
- Died at the age 50 in 1572 partly from having worn himself
out with his labours.

There is no consistency on how Bishop Jewell's name is spelt. In older documents we have retained 'Jewel' when it is used, but in the page names etc we have tried to use 'Jewell'.
