The ARCIC process came to an end partly because of the growing liberalism of the Anglican Communion, particularly in the United States and partly because of the sense that having addressed various theological issues ARCIC had not gone as far as many people wished.
After a delay a meeting in Mississauga, Canada, proposed the establishment of a new body which would address unity from a mission basis rather than a doctrinal basis. In other words to concentrate more on doing things together without asking too closely whether what we are doing is compatible with what we believe.
