A patron is a person or body who has the right to present a clergyman to a benefice in the Church of England. The rights of presentation, which are strictly speaking a piece of property, are called the advowson.

Are you a Patron?
Church Society Trust has long experience of appointing clergy and an extensive network of contacts. We are deeply concerned for the priority of a local church and to ensure that teaching and pastoral ministry in the church is faithful to our received heritage. If you are a patron and feel that this work may be better carried out by others, or has become difficult to sustain, then the Trust is more than willing to receive Rights of Patronage. For a private patron, such rights can be handed over fairly easily. Where patronage rights rest with an incumbent they can only be handed over with the approval of the Diocesan bishop.
