Dr Patrick Sookhdeo

Patrick Sookhdeo was born in Guyana, South America, in 1947. He moved with his family to the UK in 1959, and became a Christian while studying architecture in London. He is international director of the Barnabas Fund, which assists Christians suffering for their faith in Muslim contexts, through prayer and fund-raising. He is also director of Servants Fellowship International, a ministry of evangelism, church-planting and practical caring in Britain’s multi-cultural inner cities. He directs the Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity, a Christian research institute with an emphasis on the Church in the Muslim world and current trends in Islam.

He lectures nationally and internationally in Islamic issues, multicultural issues and race issues. He is the author of numerous papers and author/editor of nine books on the same subjects areas.

He holds a PhD. from London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies (Department of the Languages and Cultures of the Near and Middle East). He also holds a D.D. from Western Seminary, Portland, Oregon for work on pluralism. He was awarded the Spring 1990 Templeton UK project award to an individual for work in the community, and the 2001 Coventry Cathedral Prize for Peace and Reconciliation.

He is non-residential Canon of St John’s Cathedral, Diocese of Peshawar, Pakistan and Canon Theologian of Diocese of Kaduna, Nigeria.
