Report of the Conference
AUDIO CDs ARE AVAILABLE OF MOST OF THE TALKS (Scroll down)
Details:
In the last century or more British society has drifted further and further from the previously strong influence of the Christian faith. The new environment in which Christians live and work is increasingly antagonistic to authentic Christianity and becoming more like the pagan world of the 1st century. Therefore, whilst we try to retain and fight for what is good in our recent Christian heritage we find ourselves increasingly working and witnessing in a pagan world.
The aim of the conference is to reflect on some of the issues that confront us in early 21st century Britain. How can we witness in a pagan world? Is it worth defending the Christian heritage of our society? To what extent are some of the contentious issues that confront us within the Church the result of Christians being influenced by the world rather than by the Word of God?
It is intended that there should be ample time for discussion after each of the talks.
On the Tuesday afternoon Church Society will hold its formal, and hopefully brief, AGM. Non-members are welcome to attend this or can take advantage of some of the local places to visit.
Subjects and Speakers:
Bible Readings
Mark O'Donoghue
Since 2004, Mark has been the City Minister at St Helen's Bishopsgate since 2004, where he heads up their midweek ministry amongst businessmen and women in the Square Mile of London. He is married to Claire with 3 young children, all of whom are devoted Chelsea fans, a passion that Mark attributes to effective parenting! In demand as a speaker both in the UK and overseas, Mark relaxes by laughing with (or at) his children, reading political history, watching the West Wing, or listening to Wagner. |
|
| Mark is looking forward to preaching on Paul's letter to the Philippians, under the title: A Passionate Partnership. Mark says: "There are many things that we are discouraged from being too excited about today - politics, sport, and work to name a few - but as Christians, we are to be profoundly passionate about the gospel. And it is that gospel-centredness that Paul wants to encourage amongst this model church in Philippi as he urges them to have passionate minds, passionate models, and passionate ministry. |
