Society exists to promote a biblical faith which shapes both
the Church of England and the society in which we live for the
sake of Christ. We invite you to join us in working for a biblical
Church.

What does Church Society stand for?
Our formal objectives.
The Bible
The Bible is God's word in which He reveals His own character,
plan of salvation and will for mankind. A biblical faith will
shape all areas of life but can be summarised as follows:
- God is sovereign, we are created by Him and are completely
subject to Him.
- The Bible is utterly trustworthy and has all the authority
of God its author.
- The only way of salvation is through faith in Christ. Such
faith is itself the gift of God.
- Christians are to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, living
for God in our daily lives, striving to be holy.
Such a faith is carefully expressed in the doctrinal standard
of the Church of England (the 39 Articles of Religion) and in
the liturgy entrusted to us after the Reformation.
The Church
In Scripture the Church is essentially local and universal.
Wider structures exist to promote the mission and work of local
churches, to facilitate fellowship and to provide a witness at
different levels of society. These structures must not be allowed
to detract from or drain the local church.
The Church should honour and respect its heritage of faith,
not being blown about by the latest fads and fashions. Yet it
must also be fresh and new in its love for Christ and in seeking
to make the gospel known.
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promises is faithful.

The Nation
Winston Churchill said "It
is bad for a nation when it loses its faith."
The presence of a national church has been integral to the health and vitality
of our nation.
Today we must work for a society where
- the name of Christ is honoured
- Christian faith and biblical standards are upheld
- our laws and conventions are
pleasing to God
- we are free to worship and to live in accordance with Christ's
commands.

Our Primary Objectives
- To maintain the doctrine and worship of the Church of England
as set forth in the 39 Articles of Religion, and the Book of
Common Prayer, as reviewed and adopted in 1662, and to uphold
the supreme and exclusive sufficiency and authority of Holy
Scripture as containing all things necessary for salvation.
- To maintain the character of the Church of England as the
National Church and also as one of the Reformed Churches of
Christendom and in the case of the disestablishment of the Church
of England to take such action as may be deemed by the Society
to be best fitted to promote the objects of the foregoing sub-clause
in such disestablished church or any branch thereof.
- To unite all members of the Church of England or of a Church
within the Anglican Communion who desire to maintain the doctrine
and worship of the Church of England on the basis of the foregoing
sub-clauses.
- To resist all efforts to reinstate in the Church of England
the sacrifice of the Mass, adoration of the Presence of Christ
in or under the form of the consecrated elements, reservation
of the Sacrament, cultus of the Virgin Mother of our Lord, Image
worship, and all like usages renounced by the Church of England
at the time of the Reformation.
- To promote or oppose or join in promoting or opposing legislative
or other measures affecting or likely to affect any of the objects
of the Society, and to contribute to or bear the expenses of
any action or proceeding in any Court or in Parliament affecting
any such objects.
- To promote friendly relations with other Protestant Churches,
and to strive for reunion of Christendom on the basis of the
supreme authority of Holy Scripture as God's Revelation of His
will for man.
